The hilarious irony of the recent outbreak of DMDS (Douglas Murray Derangement Syndrome) now is that everyone will become an expert on what an expert is.
Interesting how swift some noble morons are to both cast judgement over something regarding which they possess neither the intellectual capacity nor the attention span to understand.
Douglas Murray did not state that that only proclaimed experts should be listened to. He is no self-proclaimed expert on geopolitics, nor is he a recognised expert on religion. He is not an institutionally-recognised expert on oration. And yet.
He is, what the aspirational biblical Hebraic in me would call it, a learned man. An individual who has pursued learning and knowledge and truth with great and profound sincerity and breadth. He has in fact made it his life’s work. How many of the cognitively-impaired collectivist ideologues who luuuurve Dave Smith to the point of quite astounding insanity could say the same? How many of us normies could say so, even?
One field in which Douglas Murray excels then is in his precise use of language to elucidate. He speaks cleanly, with alacrity, is measured in his delivery – all of which is necessarily a sign of total dumbassishness when you’re an American with an inferiority complex because some of us Englishmen (yes) have read literature and like language and to speak proper.
Murray simply used the concept of the expert to demonstrate that while there are individuals who have made this chosen path their life’s work, other people are comedians and decide to have opinions simply because they are popular in the meanstream. And at no point did he claim that such individuals should not share their opinions. Opinions, as we all are aware, are like assholes: some are clean, and some are haemorrhaging shit.
The point that he made, that so many juvenile imbeciles deliberately misunderstood, was simply this: own your opinions.
If one of your goals in life (as it should be for everyone) is to avoid being a hypocrite, it’s preferable to not tout yourself as the most experienced person on a subject then attempt to shield yourself from backlash using the “I’m only a comedian, don’t be mean to me” line.
Murray calls it shapeshifting. And he, once again, accurate in his deployment of language. Shapeshifters are sinister, which you idiots would know if you’d ever watched Supernatural. [1]
Lee Kern, a fucking mensch, has a concise and excellent (and I do not use that word lightly) analysis, and highlights the orgiastic jealousy that some twits harbour for authentic intellectuals such as Murray. [2]
Watch Murray’s recent discussion with UnHerd’s Freddie Sayers, and be enlightened by not reading the comments. [3]
